A little about me...
I’m Matteo, I’m 22, I come from Corinaldo, a beautiful village in the Italian countryside. I have studied Italian Literature, and I would like to become a teacher. I have got a lovely family with two older sisters, a nephew and a niece, and my parents who have supported me in all my choices. I like reading books, playing guitar, walking in the mountains and playing sports (volleyball, football, basketball…).
Why Vincentian Volunteers ...
I joined the Vincentian Volunteers programme because:
Last May I was thinking if I wanted to join the programme or not. And a Jesuit in an homily said: “poor people told me the most wonderful things about the Risen Christ”, and I thought “I want to listen these wonderful things”, and I decided to join the Programme.
Why in England? To improve my English and because I think that in a foreign country is useful (for me) to test myself.
My Projects ...
I’m working in Booth Centre: a centre for people in need (homeless people, people who look for a job or an accommodation). I serve them breakfast and lunch, and I join the activities with them such as singing, drama, playing sports. A few days before Christmas we’ll have a performance, and it’s really exciting to see them participating. It’s very enriching speaking and spending time with them.
My Highlights ...
It’s a lot of fun being here. I love my work placement and especially the group of Vincentian Volunteers. I would also like to mention Sandymount Retreat Centre, dancing, Karaoke (I think we should avoid that pub for the rest of our life), Brown Cow (I met my second English family there), my community, the trips around Liverpool, the occasional adventures of the bus being delayed.
