A little about me:
Jambo!! My name is Moses Kogie, I am 29 years old, I come from a county called Nakuru in Kenya. Back home I worked as an organizing secretary and youth co-ordinator in my Parish. In my early years we used to live in Nairobi but we later moved to Nakuru county. I am the oldest of five children, my family and I love attending and participating in church services, in most cases we attend Sunday mass together, I love rugby, cycling, cooking, listening to music, going for walks and to crown it all, I love attending Mass service everyday whenever I get a chance especially back home.
Why I chose the Vincentian Volunteers:
I love working as a volunteer, had a chance to volunteer in France for 9 months and this gave me a lot of experience and amazing memories, I chose Vincentian volunteer programme since their programmes are tailor made for one's needs or rather they've got different options to cater for a volunteer's needs or what suits them almost perfectly, again I wanted to gain more experience in a different environment whilst serving God and His people.
Mary and Joseph House is where I work as a volunteer, it's a home for both young and elderly men who have had a rough time or difficulties in their past lives due to alcohol and drugs dependency cases, they're taken care of there also the house handles men who have dementia and mental health issues, I work closely with my supervisor Mr. Andy. D and other staff who are very supportive and dedicated to their work. I love working there with the men because I get to learn a lot about them, also I get to know them better and what they've gone through, this will definitely shape my future life as a man. My work entails helping the men with their daily activities both indoors and out doors, these include, going swimming, dancing, art and craft work, walks, fishing, trips, playing pool, having chats with the men and preparing for prayers in the chapel among many other activities.
Would be working in Mary and Joseph House, living with my community here in Manchester, spending time with the other volunteers who stay in Liverpool, having a meal together, participating in our community nights with our coordinator Marion and Stephen, having a chat with Sr. Susan especially almost every Sunday after church, going for retreats and am now looking forward to having a blessed time here.....
