A little about me...
Horas…., my name is Theresia Devina. I come from Indonesia, before joining the Vincentian volunteers I worked as a staff PPIC in a foreign company in Jakarta. I am the middle child of seven siblings, my parents came from North Sumatra.
WHY I CHOSE THE VINCENTIAN VOLUNTEERS...
As an employee in Jakarta I'm very comfortable with my life, all the things I need and I want always I can get. My relationships with family, friends, co-workers all goes well. Amid all the comfort that there is a “saturation point” that brings me to the question, if I did not appreciate what God had given me?, why I can saturate ?. From here I am looking for a way to better appreciate more the grace of God and I try to participate in church services. I was in a church choir, I also took care of the orphanage.
I am also concerned with the number of street children and crime in my neighborhood, the lack of education and lack of skills that makes it difficult for many young people to get a job. And I am keen to serve and provide training to them, but I need the expertise and experience before doing this service. When I shared with my brother about what I think, my brother advised me to join Vincentian volunteer program. And I decided to participate in the program this year.
L'Arche Manchester is the place of my ministry. It is a home for people with disability. In this house we help those who have a deficiency in order to mingle with others, every day members have a routine that helps them to understand an activity that aims to help them become more independent. Our activities include swimming, music, cycling, cooking, tidy up the room. We the staff also has a joint prayer activities. Before I do my job, I get a lot of training in services such as: fire safety training, basic training first aid, special communications, training move and handling, training of mental capacity, training about the food, training about safe houses and medication training. And also 3-month review. I get a new skill in here.
Working at L'arche give a lot of valuable experience for me, not just a lot of training that I can, learn to love sincerely, learn to respect others and learn to care wholeheartedly, one thing I always remember every time to come to work is laughter carefree, sweet hugs and greetings from everyone I encountered, I love L'Arche so much, along with other Vincentian Volunteers we are conducting a prayer together, eating together, joint adventure. The Vincentian Volunteers areas a new family for me, we shared the experience of each day, support each other and care for each other. When we cook, preparing meals, washing dishes, cleaning the house, shopping weekly, freezing together as the months are getting colder! Happy or sad times we share and spend together, the differences we encountered only made us better understand one another. Oh ... my new family in the Lord. Hugs, laughter, bright ideas, different characters, and each volunteer habits of others will always be remembered and laughed at someday. Big hug for all Vincentian volunteers. And thank you so much to Marion, Sr. Susan and all the Vincentian family in volunteer programs, for 10 months at the full story of my life. Special Thanks to my God.
