A little about me...
I'm from Birmingham, England, and graduated in Business Management BA at Coventry University in 2011. I then lived and worked in Madrid, Spain, for three years before deciding to join the Vincentian Volunteer Program. In my spare time I love doing anything sporty (running, football, mountaineering) and also reading and learning languages.
Why Vincentian Volunteers ...
For quite a while whilst working I felt that God was calling me to give myself more fully to Him. I'd been looking for the right programme for some time when I stumbled upon the Vincentian Volunteers website. I instantly felt attracted to the practical nature of the work and the idea of living in community also appealed to me. I felt this would be a great opportunity not only to help in a real way but also to take some time away from the professional world to discern the Lord's will for my life.
My Projects ...
I am working at the Lodging House Mission and am thoroughly enjoying it. The Lodging House Mission provides services and care for the homeless and vulnerable and the work I do there is very varied. Some days I am helping in the canteen/kitchen area to serve those who come in to the centre. Other days I am helping to provide I.T. support or assisting in the various classes (English, Maths, Cooking, Music Photography) that are provided. The people are incredibly friendly and the other volunteers make it a great place to work.
My Highlights ...
Living in community is incredibly fun and I've really enjoyed meeting and spending time with the other volunteers. Everyone gets on well and each person brings something different to programme meaning we always have a great time whenever we are all together. I've also loved my placement so far and it's great to see the energy and joy with which the people working there serve all those they come in to contact with.
